Jay Richard Miller, 96, died Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Mount Nittany Medical Center surrounded by family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Henry E. and Jesse L. (Bigelow) Miller, and wives, Oneta J. (Goss) and Edith A. (Henry).
He leaves his children, Jay R. Miller, Jr., Sharon Eileen Miller, Pamela J. Bothe, Sherman Keith Goss, Gary M. Goss, Kevin W. Goss, Janene L. Reiter, and Kathy L. Ciccarelli. His eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren will miss their beloved “Grandpa.”
Jay was born at his family home in McAlevy’s Fort on April 16, 1921. Growing up, he worked on several farms around Belleville. He graduated from Belleville Vocational School in 1939. After school, he studied industrial engineering through ICS, had his own machine shop for a time and also worked for New Holland. He joined the Navy and served in World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He later worked for Sutton Engineering in Bellefonte and retired from his position as plant superintendent in 1982.
Through the years he enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time at the Early Bird Camp, woodworking, listening to music, and entertaining friends and family at his home.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017 at Locust Grove Mennonite Church in Belleville, PA at 10:00 AM. Friends may call at 9:00 AM and there will be a meal to follow.
Donations can be made in his memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, United Cerebral Palsy, or the American Cancer Society.
